Bike Lockers Available!

Rent a bike locker!

Extend your ride with one of our bike lockers. Ride to an exchange, lock up your bike and bus the remaining distance to your destination or leave your bike in a locker and bus to it from home. For just $10.00 a month you can extend your green commute and avoid those ugly car crawls.

The GVCC has bike lockers available now at Juan de Fuca, Mctavish & Langford Exchange (Station Avenue).

If you are interested, contact bikelockers@gvcc.bc.ca or leave a message for Robyn at 250-480-5155

Report a Dangerous Cycling Situation

If you have had an accident or a close call while cycling in Greater Victoria or if you are aware of anything that poses a danger to cyclists within the Greater Victoria cycling area, please contact facilities@gvcc.bc.ca. The GVCC Facilities and Infrastructure Committee will pUrsue the matter with the appropriate City department to resolution.

Have you ever had an accident involving one of these bad boys?

Please tell us all about it via the email link above: When, Where and exactly What happened. Were you injured? Was your bike damaged? We think it might not be such a good idea to have a three foot high immovable metal object in the middle of a bike path!

Next Recreational Ride: Bowker Creek Greenway Loop

Postponed to next week due to weather!

Departs from Selkirk Station (Location Map) at 11:00 a.m. and The Arriba Coffeehouse  at 1610 Cook Street (Location Map) at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, February 5th.

Come explore the new multi-use trail on the Bowker Creek Greenway, north of Hillside Mall. Possibly the flattest route from downtown to UVic. Meet at Selkirk Station OR at Arriba Coffeehouse (1610 Cook Street.) We'll continue through Fernwood, past "Haultain Corners" and up to North Dairy Road on flat, residential streets. Once past Hillside Mall, we'll take the newest multi-use pathways in town: the Bowker Creek Greenway. Then it's on to the Rootcellar at Blenkinsop and McKenzie and back to Selkirk Station via the San Juan Greenway, Lochside and Galloping Goose Trails. Under 20 kilometres, only 66 metres of climbing (not all at once!).

It may seem like the dead of winter right now, but the forecast for Sunday is for a high of 8 degrees and only light rain. Positively tropical!

Six-month closure of Craigflower bridge likely

A six-month shutdown of the Craigflower bridge is almost certain with Saanich council expected to agree to an intensive construction schedule to replace it.

Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard said his council will likely support the complete closing of the bridge instead of an 18-month schedule that would keep traffic flowing with limited access.

Leonard’s comments follow a decision by neighbouring View Royal council to go with the six-month plan.

The bridge, owned by both communities, is part of the Admirals Road Corridor Improvement Project, which will be funded by a $10-million grant from federal gas taxes. Both sides will also pay for road improvements involving the bridge.

Come to talk about bikes, infrastructure, community, or just to have a good time! We hope to see you there!

Recent Recreational Ride: Winter Wassail at Sea Cider

We not only survived the coldest ride of the year but we enjoyed ourselves too!

Harbour and Esquimalt Improvements

There is a new cyclist activated crossing light at Harbour and Esquimalt. This route should now replace the current detour up and over the railway bridge for those coming South on the Galloping Goose Trail and turning East for downtown Victoria via the Johnson Street Bridge. Just stay on Harbour. press the button for the crossing light. It changes very quickly. And it stays red for the cross traffic long enough for you to get to the "take the lane" location just before the bridge.

UPDATE January 10, 2011: The detour connecting the Galloping Goose to the JSB is now closed as is Kimta street when approaching from the West. It is now advised to stay on Esquimalt and/or Harbour roads no matter which direction you are coming or going!

New Fort Street Bike Corral

Victoria's newest Bike Corral is now up on the 700 block of Fort Street. The corral permanently replaces the trial bike parking that the city had set up last year. There is now parking for 20 bikes on the two pedestrian bulges in mid-block.
