11 riders met at Selkirk Station on a warm "pineapple express" December morning. We met a 12th at Saanich road, our turnoff for Christmas Hill Nature Reserve from the Lochside Trail. What a gem of a park and so easy to get to - hardly a half hour ride from downtown Victoria. We enjoyed a brief circuit of the park on the wonderful stone path, admiring the trees and the moss and ferns and of course the great view from the top. We moved just below the peak on the south side to get out of the wind and right at that moment the sun came out. It was quite warm as we sampled the many treats the riders had brought, washed down with spiked egg nog. A very convivial group. Back to the Lochside trail and 10 of us decided to continue the ride instead of returning directly to Selkirk. We proceeded north on the Lochside to the San Juan Greenbelt turn off and then worked our way east to the coast and then south on the seaside route through Cadboro Bay, Oak Bay and Fairfield with lots of stops for rests, coffee and to admire the views. The group thinned out along the way. There were 4 of us left for the return to downtwon just before 4 p.m.
Thanks to everyone for making this such a special day. We will certainly be making this an annual event.
