The coldest week of the year and an inch of snow didn't stop 8 hardy riders from coming out for this ride though it did slow us down a bit. 2 riders departed from Selkirk Station at 10:30 to be joined by 2 more at the switch bridge and then 4 at the Lochside Trail crossing at McKenzie Road. Just north of McKenzie the trail was dry. Even the hills were absent of any snow. It was mostly sunny and there was only a slight breeze from the North.
We made good time to Sea Cider just off the Lochside Trail at Mount Newton Crossing arriving at 12:15. We were entertained by tradition English Morris Dancers and Mummers as we sampled various fine ciders and snacks and had a tour of the Orchard and the Cidery by the owner.
The return was very fast with the wind at our backs and the sun in our faces. We stopped for hot chocolate at Mattick's Farm and some produce shoppingat the adjacent Red Barn. We arrived back in Victoria at about 3 :30.
It was great to have this kind of turnout even on a cold winter's day with snow forecast and on the ground. Thanks to everyone who made it and proved once again that a great time can be had riding regardless of the weather.
